Who builds it

Built by a chief engineer.

Tom Urbik has sailed as a marine engineer for twenty years, and has been a chief engineer since 2015. In 2009 he was third engineer on the Liberty Sun when Somali pirates attacked it with rockets. The crew barricaded the engine room, and nobody was hurt.

Will it fit?Plate V

One wire decides.

Karts, minibikes, cycle karts, pit bikes.

Not sure? With the engine idling, touch the coil's kill wire to ground. If the engine dies, Guardian fits.

Already running a rev-limited coil? Guardian can only lower the ceiling, never raise it. Your limit is the lower of the two.

When does it ship?

The first batch ships by December 14, 2026. If we miss that date, you can cancel for a full refund.

How long is the pre-order price?

The $149.99 pre-order price runs through November 30, 2026. After that, Guardian is $175.

How much is shipping?

Shipping in the US is free, by USPS. We do not offer express shipping.

Why does it cost more than a rev-limited coil?

A rev-limited coil is one fixed number, and you pull the flywheel to fit it. Guardian is three wires, any number you want, set from your phone, with a two-step and a choice of how it hits.

Will it fit my engine?

Guardian works on any magneto-fired small engine with a kill-to-ground coil: the single-wire kill. Not sure? With the engine idling, touch the coil's kill wire to ground. If the engine dies, Guardian fits.

Does it need my engine's battery or charging system?

No. Guardian has its own battery and charges off USB-C. It works on engines with no electrical system at all.

What if it fails?

It fails safe. If Guardian ever stops working, your engine keeps running.

I already have a rev-limited coil.

Already running a rev-limited coil? Guardian can only lower the ceiling, never raise it. Your limit is the lower of the two.

Can I return it?

Yes. You have 30 days after delivery to return your Guardian for a refund. You pay the return shipping. Email thomas@steamerpower.com to start a return.

Is there a warranty?

One-year warranty. If your Guardian fails from a defect in parts or workmanship within one year of delivery, we repair or replace it. You pay the shipping to send it back. Email thomas@steamerpower.com to start a claim.
