What does a rev limiter do on a small engine?
A rev limiter puts a ceiling on how fast your engine can spin. When the engine reaches the number you set, the limiter cuts the spark for an instant, the revs drop back under the limit, and the engine fires again.
Is a governor delete safe?
It can be, if you upgrade the parts that weren't built for the extra RPM and put a ceiling back on the engine. With the governor gone, the stress on the engine's parts goes past the range the factory designed for, so take care if you are still running stock parts.
Rev limiter or rev-limited coil: which should I run?
A rev-limited coil gives you one fixed limit, and you pull the flywheel to fit it. A rev limiter like the Steamer Power Guardian™ wires into the coil you already have, and you set any limit you want from your phone.
Will the Guardian fit my engine?
Guardian works on any magneto-fired small engine with a kill-to-ground coil: the single-wire kill. Not sure? With the engine idling, touch the coil's kill wire to ground. If the engine dies, Guardian fits.
