Privacy policy.
Effective October 13, 2026. Covers the STOKER app, the Steamer Tuning Assistant app, steamerpower.com and orders.
- No accounts, no ads, no tracking, no analytics and no crash reporting in our apps.
- Your rides, settings and engine data stay on your phone. We never receive them.
- We do not sell or share your information.
- Questions: thomas@steamerpower.com.
The STOKER app
STOKER connects to Steamer Power products, such as the Steamer Power Guardian™, and logs your rides. It has no sign-in and no account.
What the app uses, and why
- Bluetooth: to find and talk to your Steamer Power products for live readings and settings. It talks only to Steamer Power devices.
- Location (precise, only while the app is open): for the speedometer, trip meter, lap timer and ride logs. STOKER does not use location in the background.
- Air-pressure sensor (barometer): to correct the power estimate for weather and altitude.
What stays on your phone
Your ride logs (GPS track, laps, weather, notes), your vehicle details, app settings and the name, ID, firmware version and settings of your paired devices. This data is stored in the app on your phone. It is not sent to Steamer Power or anyone else. STOKER has no export or share feature.
What leaves your phone
- Weather: when you record a ride, the ride's location (rounded to about 11 meters) and time are sent to the U.S. National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) to get the weather for that ride. No name, account or device ID is sent. Like any web request, the weather service can see your phone's internet (IP) address.
- Place names: the ride's location is sent to your phone's built-in map service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android) to name the place.
- App updates: when you open STOKER, it checks our update service (run by Expo, u.expo.dev) for a newer version of the app. It sends the phone type, the app version and a random install ID. It does not send your name, location or rides.
Nothing else leaves the phone. STOKER has no advertising, analytics, tracking or crash-reporting service.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Delete a ride: press and hold it in Chart Room.
- STOKER keeps your last 50 rides by default and tidies older ones away. You can change this in the app.
- Forget a device in its settings to remove it from the app.
- Uninstall the app to delete everything it stored.
- Your phone's own backup (iCloud or Google) may keep a copy of app data until that backup is deleted.
You can turn Bluetooth and location access off at any time in your phone's settings. Some features, such as the speedometer or connecting to a Guardian, will not work without them.
The Steamer Tuning Assistant app
The Tuning Assistant is a reference tool for small-engine tuning. It has no accounts, analytics, advertising or crash reporting, and it makes no network requests.
It saves your engine names, carburetor type, jet notes and your place in a guide on your phone so you can pick up where you left off. That data is not sent to us or to anyone else. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
This website
- If you join our email list or the Guardian reserve list, we receive the name and email address you enter and the optional note about your build or engine. It is emailed to us so we can write to you about Steamer Power products, or send you a link to buy your reserved Guardian. The reserve list takes no card or payment. We use the email service Resend to send it. Ask us any time and we will remove you.
- Our web host (Netlify) keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and pages requested, to run and protect the site.
- The site uses no advertising or analytics trackers. It may remember your light or dark theme choice in your own browser.
Orders
Orders are handled by Shopify. When you buy, Shopify collects your name, email, shipping address and payment details to process and ship the order. We see your order details so we can fill it; we never see your full card number. See our store privacy policy, refund policy and shipping policy.
Children
Our apps and website are meant for adults, including parents who set up a vehicle for a young rider. They are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If an app ever starts sending new kinds of data, we will update this page first.
