How do I limit the top speed for a young rider?
Set a lower rev limit. Top speed comes from how fast the engine spins, your sprocket ratio and your tire diameter, so a lower limit is a lower top speed, however hard the throttle is held.
With a Guardian
Open STOKER, set a lower number, and that's it. No tools, no flywheel off. When the rider is ready for more, raise it.
An optional PIN-coded parental lock is coming to STOKER, so the rider can't raise the number themselves.
STOKER shows your speed from the phone's GPS, so you can see what a limit means in miles per hour before the rider goes out.
Rev limit or throttle stop?
A throttle stop limits how far the throttle opens, so it cuts engine power through the whole RPM range. A Guardian leaves full engine power all the way up to the limit you set, so the vehicle performs better than it would on a throttle stop, and the ceiling still holds.
Finding the number
Start low, ride with them, and raise it in small steps. A rev limit is one part of keeping a young rider safe. The right vehicle, the right gear and an adult watching are the rest.
